Every
year thousands of construction workers and laborers
are killed or seriously injured while working
at construction s. The latest statistics for
workers in the United States indicate that there
were 5.7 million occupational injuries and illnesses
among U.S. workers. Accidents on the job result
in the deaths of 6,000 workers each year. This
occurs even though many state and federal regulations,
as well as industry standards, require owners,
general contractors and sub-contractors to implement
a wide variety of safety measures.
Although workers' compensation helps employees
while injured on the job, it is usually not sufficient
to fully compensate injured workers for all the
damages sustained as a result of their work-related
accidents.
Under New York law, in order to receive full and
fair compensation for injuries, workers must commence
lawsuits against the owners of property, general
contractors, sub-contractors, architects, and
even manufacturers of defective products. These
lawsuits can provide additional compensation for
pain, suffering and medical costs to a worker
receiving workers' compensation benefits.
